After Dennis' mother died, his father abandoned the two children. They went to live with their grandmother. She is elderly and in frail health. She is not able to provide for Dennis' basic needs. Life has been very hard for him. He sleeps on the ground of their mud house and does not own bedding. He only is able to eat every few days at home, which has led to malnutrition.
